Mexican superstar Juan Gabriel has died, aged 66.

The veteran crooner passed away from a suspected heart attack in Santa Monica, California on Sunday morning, according to multiple reports.

Gabriel was in the middle of his massive "MeXXico Es Todo Tour," and had just performed at the Forum in Los Angeles on Friday night.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto took to Twitter to pay tribute to one of the country's most beloved stars, writing, "I regret the death of Juan Gabriel, one of the great musical icons of our country. My condolences to your family and friends. A voice and a talent representing Mexico. His music, a legacy to the world. He was gone too soon. Rest in peace."

Gabriel, also known as the El Divo de Juarez, released more than 35 albums throughout his 40-year career.
