DELTONA, Fla. (WPEC) - A man accused of trying to rob a store told deputies the real robber "went that way," just as he surrendered to authorities while sitting waist deep in a pond.

Deputies with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said 29-year-old Sean Torres also claimed to be fishing in the pond and that his fishing pole was underwater.

Unfortunately for Torres, his tattoos gave him away.

Minutes earlier, deputies responded to the Family Dollar store after getting a report of an attempted robbery. The store clerk told deputies a man who had a "Loyalty" tattoo across his stomach had tried to rob the business. The robber demanded money and the clerk said no, so the robber took off.

Deputies in a helicopter spotted a person trying to hide in a pond near the store. A group of deputies and a K9 encouraged the suspect to put his hands up and surrender, which he did. He had a "Loyalty" tattoo on his stomach.

The suspect did not go to jail quietly. The Sheriff's Office said Torres kicked and screamed while in the patrol car, causing some damage.

Torres is facing charges of robbery and criminal mischief.
